Abstract
972,734. Fuelling reactors. UNITED POWER CO. Ltd. Oct. 4, 1963 [July 5, 1962], No, 25855/62. Heading G6C. A charge machine 1 is rotatably supported by a shoulder 2 and bearing 3 on an annular structure 4 having wheels 8 surrounding the machine 1 at its lower end. The wheels 8 are single wheels and a plurality are provided arranged on parallel axes around the structure 4, each wheel having an axle 9 carried by an arm 10 pivotally connected at one end to a bracket 11 fixed to the structure. The other end of the arm 10 is connected to the ram 12 of a hydraulic ram assembly 13 so that by extending the rams the machine 1 is raised clear of the reactor charge floor 21 to permit movement of the structure 4 by driving the wheels 8, whereas by retracting the rams, the machine 1 rests on the floor 21 and the wheels 8 are raised clear of the floor. In this condition the structure 4 may be rotated on the machine 1 by operating a motor 18 mounted on the structure, this motor driving a pinion 19 meshing with an annular gear 20 fixed to the machine. Thus the wheels 8 may be orientated so that when they support the machine on the surface 21 the machine is driven in the desired direction. Each wheel 8 may have its own driving motor (Fig. 2, not shown) and this motor may be electric or hydraulic. In a modification (not shown) the arms 10 are omitted and the wheels 8 are mounted directly on the lower ends of telescopic rams. T.V. cameras may be mounted beneath the structure 4 to observe the standpipe with which the machine is to be aligned.
