Abstract

972,356. Elevated railway systems. ANGLOTRANSVAAL CONSOLIDATED INVESTMENT CO. Ltd. May 14, 1963 [Sept. 25, 1962], No. 19113/63. Heading B7L. A conveyer comprises overhead parallel tracks 3, 4, Fig. 1, connected by a substantially semi-circular track 5, and a train of haulage tubs 6, each tub having two wheel assemblies 23 each carried by a mounting 22 which is rotatable about a vertical axis 21, the assemblies 23 on each tub and adjacent assemblies on adjacent tubs being spaced apart by distances less than the diameter of the substantially semi-circular track 5. Assemblies 23 on adjacent tubs are connected together by rigid links 24 rotatable about axes 21. Each tub 6 is pivoted at 14 to a mounting 11,12,13, Fig. 3, the pivots being above the C.G. of an empty tub but below the C.G. of a full tub for automatic tipping and return to an upright position. A pin 16 on mounting 11, 12, 13 is raised out of engagement with the tub by rollers 19 on arms 18 being raised by a cam to permit the tub to tip. The sides 7 of the tubs are vertical but the sides 8 are inclined inwardly from the top to the bottom, Fig. 2, not shown. The tracks are supported from a tunnel roof 2, Fig. 4, by a channel member 25 to which is rigidly attached a bracket 28 and pivotally attached a bracket 27; after a track section has been inserted a bolt 30 clamps the brackets together. Wedges 31, 32 hold the track support rigid. The rigid links 24 between the tubs can be replaced by ropes if the train of tubs are only pulled and not pushed.
