Abstract

An overhead conveyor with carriages (2) travelling on rails, with end members (3) each suspended from a roller (5) shaped to fit the rail (1), has a chain (10) above the rail with special links (15) each with a block (16) suspended from it acting as a coupling to engage one end (6) of the carriage. Each coupling block (16) has a recess (28) on its underside which engages a head portion (7) on the top of the engaged end (6). In one direction of travel, a pendulum bar (34) suspended under the block, swings forward to fill this recess. The pendulum is mounted on a tilting bar (21) integral with the underside of the block (16) by a hinge pin (33). This bar is one of a pair (21, 19) each mounted on a hinge pin (20, 18) at the ends of the block.
