Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed July 12,1907. Serial No. 333,497.
I To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER A. HENNING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kenyon, county of Goodhue, and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Elevated Carriers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
vThis invention relates to an elevated carrier, and particularly to a construction embodying a dumping receptacle carried thereby.
The invention has for an object to provide a novel and improved construction of releasing mechanism for the dumping receptacle adapted to be actuated in either direction by a proper stop or contact block secured to the track uponwhich the carrier travels.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved construction of guard disposed beneath the elevated track and the wheels of the carrier thereon so as to prevent the latter from being disengaged from the track during the travel of the carrier mechanism.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawing:-Figure 1 is a perspective showing the application of the invention; Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective of the carrier frame from the opposite side to Fig; 1; Fig. 3 is an end view at the left of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a detail perspective of the pivoting standard for the tripping lever, and Fig. 5 is a similar view of the guiding standard therefor.
Like. numerals refer to like parts in the several views of the drawing.
The numeral 1 designates a carrier receptacle which may be of any desired construction or configuration, and is provided below its center of gravity at its opposite ends with pintles or pivoting pins 2 projecting therefrom. These pins are connected by a frame com prising opposite end posts 3 connected by the top bar 4, these parts being of any desired character, preferably formed of tubing connected by unions and elbows such as are ordinarily used in pipe construction. This carrier is supported from the track or way 5 by means of the wheels (5 which are each journaled in the standards 7 at the upper end thereof. These standards are connected with the frame 4 by the swiveled couplings S disposed at the upper end of posts 9 and 10 which are coupled to the frame 4. This swiveled coupling perlniis a proper turning of the wheels in the travel of the carrier around a curve in the track as hereinafter described. This track may be either a wire or the ordinary bar supported in the usual hangers. The standards 7 under ordinary conditions are connected together by the guard plate ll which extends between the same and is provided at its opposite ends with the laterally disposed arms 12 secured thereto in any desired manner, and provided with a groove 13 disposed in alinement beneath the track so as to permit the passage therethrough of the trip operating stop 14 carried by the track, while the portions of the arm at each side of this recesss closely approach the periphery of the wheel so as to prevent any possible disengagement of the wheel from the track by the vertical movement thereof. These arms 12 are each provided with a shoulder 15 atone side thereof adapted to seat in a slot 16 formed at one side of the standard 7 by which the lateral disengagement of the guard arm from the standards is prevented. These standards are also provided with the bearing washer 17 at their upper portion from which the bearing 18 for the wheel 6 extends, said wheel being secured by a nut or other desired means applied to the threaded end 19 of the bearing.
The guard plate 11 is provided upon one face with a spacer block 20 extended laterally therefrom and provided with the pivot 21 upon which the trip finger 22 is mounted. The upper face 23 of this finger is oppositely inclined so as to be oscillated by the track stop in either direction, and the lower end thereof has a flat face 24 disposed in contact with a similar face 25 of the contact block 26 carried at the inner end 27 of the trip- I ping lever 28: This-lever is pivotally mounted in a slot 29 in the standard 1.0 by means of the cross pin 30 extending therethrough, while the extended end 31 of the lever passes through a slot 32 in the guiding standard 33 carried by the coupling at the upper end of the post 3 at one end of the receptacle. To this lever 28 a depending rod 34 is pivotally mounted at 35 and extends downward through a guide eye 36 to engage .a suitable recess or seat in the sector 37 secured to the end of the receptacle 1.
It will be seen that the foregoing construction is adapted for the operation of the tripping lever to release the receptacle in either direction of the movement of the carrier, as the fiat face of the tripping fin ger being operated on its pivot correspondingly depresses the inner end of the tripping lever to raise the rod out of contact with its engaging meansupon the receptacle, while this lever is effectually guided and pivoted by its mounting in the wheel standard and the guide standard at the end of the frame; When the guard plate is applied to the wheel standards they are held against rotary movement relative to the carrier, and the wheels thereof effectually prevented from leaving the track incident to any sudden propulsion thereof given in starting the receptacle on its travel. This plate is easily detachable by lifting out of its sockets and when removed permits the free swiveling of the wheel standards upon the carrier frame so that a. short curve may be turned thereby. This plate also pro-- said lever in convenient position for operation by hand to dump the receptacle. It will therefore be seen that this construction presents a simple, economically constructed and eflicient arrangement of parts for use in a carrier especially adapted for conveying materials upon a farm win any other location where power propulsion is not accessible or desired.
Having described my invention and set forth its merits, what Ilglaiin and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
1. In a carrier ,a frame, a receptacle mounted thtereon, carrier wheels connected to said frame by standards, and a guard plate supported in said standards and provided with la teraliy'projecting arms disposed beneath the periphery of said wheels adjacent thereto. i
2. A carrier provided with a frame, a receptacle mounted thereon, carrier wheels connected to said frame by stand ards, and a guard plate provided with laterally extending recessed arms having a shoulder to engage the base of said standards at the opposite side thereof from said plate.
3. A carrier provided with a frame, a receptacle mounted thereon, carrier wheels connected to said frame hylstnndards, a guard plate provided with laterally extending recessed arms having a shoulder to engage the base of said standards at the opposite side thereof from said plate, and a swiveled connection between said standards and said frame.
4. In a carrier, a frame, a receptacle pivotaiiy mounted thereon, carriijr wheels for said frame, a pivotaily mounted trip lever hav ng a contact block at one end, an independent pivotedfinger lever having faces at opposite sides of its pivot and adapted to contact with said block, and
means extending fromthe trip lever to a retaining device upon the receptacle. I
. 5. In a carrier,-a frame, a receptacle pivotaily mounted thereon, carrier wheels connected with said frame, a pivotaliy mounted trip lever-having a contact block at one end, a pivotaiiy mounted finger having a face in contact with said block, a bolt extending from said lever to u retaining plate on said receptacle, a slotted pivoting stamiard for one of said wheels in which said lever is mounted,
carrier wheels, a guard plate extending between said standards and provided with lateral arms disposed beneath said wheels, a trip finger provided with an angular under face, and a tripping lever connected with said receptacle and having a contact block to engage said face.

and a contact block carried by the inner face of said lever and having an angular face to engage-that of the tripping linger.
