Abstract

972,262. Scavenging vessels. J. MULLER. July 31, 1962 [Aug. 22, 1961], No. 29362/62. Headings B7A, B5M and B7S. [Also in Division B1] A vessel for collecting and/or recovering liquid or solid waste from, e.g., the surface of harbour waters or ships' tanks comprises a selfpropelling barge 1 containing a tank 2, divided into three sections, for receiving and decanting water polluted by the waste matter, a pump 5 for delivering the polluted water into the tank 2 via the pipeline 4, a diffuser 3 through which the water is passed from the pump into the tank, and a suction bell 9 immediately above the diffuser through which matter floating on the water in the tank is drawn off for complete separation and/or recovery of the waste matter. The suction bell is connected via pipes 10 and 11 to separating and filtering apparatus 12 and 13, Garbage disintegrators 14 and 15 are also provided together with baling presses (not shown), and storing drums and containers 29 and 30. The polluted water is collected by floating pipelines 6, which are paid out over fixed or adjustable ramps 33 and 34, or by the overhead pipeline 7 on the jib 8. The vessel is provided with independent rotary propulsion means 21 and 22, e.g. of the Voigt-Schneider type, in combination with independent rudders 23 and 24 and also with fenders 25, e.g. pneumatic-tyred wheels 25, together with resiliently mounted electromagnets 27 provided with spark arresting nozzles. Specification 971,658 is referred to.
