Abstract
971,663. Cable spacers. BOWTHORPE ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. July 30, 1963 [Aug. 9, 1962], No. 30538/62. Heading H2C. A cable spacer comprises two cable-clamping members 10, 11, secured together by a pair of parallel spacing members 12, e.g. lengths of stiff stranded steel cable. As shown, each clamping member comprises two alloy die-castings 10a, 10b, hinged at 13 and drawn together by a captive screw-threaded bolt 15 screwing into a stainless steel insert 17. The spacers 12 are crimped in bores 19 and are covered by a common sheath 20 of plastics material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, which prevents them rusting and avoids electrolytic action between them. To prevent the spacers 12 twisting and thus rubbing together one or more metal collars may be crimped on to the spacers intermediate their ends (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). In a further embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown), each of four clamping members is secured to one of the arms of a central cruciform member by a pair of parallel stranded steel spacers and each spacer is separately covered by a sheath of protective polyvinyl chloride. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 892,423.
