Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0971606/C1/1> and acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts thereof (in which R1 represents a straight or branched-chain alkyl, a dialkylaminoalkyl or a carbalkoxy-methyl group, R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a straight- or branched-chain alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl or phenylalkyl group and R3 represents a straight- or branched-chain alkyl or cycloalkyl group or a phenyl group optionally substituted by at least one C1-2-alkyl or -alkoxy group and/or halogen atom) and the preparation thereof by reacting an alkali metal salt of a triazolone <FORM:0971606/C1/2> with a reactive ester of R1OH and optionally converting the base into a salt or quaternary ammonium salt thereof. The triazolones II may be prepared by converting an appropriate aliphatic or aromatic amide into the corresponding imido-chlorides, benzene sulphonic acid lactim ethers or imido ethers and reacting these with alkyl esters of hydrazine carboxylic acids to give amidrazones of the formula <FORM:0971606/C1/3> and ring closing the amidrazones by heating with an alkali. Pharmaceutical compositions having analeptic, antiphlogistic, sedative and hypnotic properties comprise the compounds I and a pharmaceutical carrier or excipient. The compositions may be in the form of tablets, capsules, suppositories, solutions, suspensions, emulsions, and syrups.
