Abstract

A tablet for colorimetrically testing water and aqueous extracts contains an indicator and a synthetic water-soluble polyelectrolyte as a flocculant, the indicator and flocculant being compressed together in the same tablet. The indicator may be a pH indicator, e.g. bromothymol blue, a metal indicator, a redox indicator or other indicator which forms a soluble coloured compound of the substance being determined. The tablet may also contain at least one filler, e.g. sodium chloride, a disintegrant, e.g. an acid-bicarbonate couple, and a lubricant, e.g. boric acid. In an example a dry mixture of polyacrylamide, bromothymol blue and sodium chloride was passed through a 36 B.S. sieve and compressed into tablets.
