Abstract

971,405. Exhaust systems of I.C. engines. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Sept. 26, 1963 [Oct. 19, 1962], No. 39586/62. Heading FIB. Exhaust branch pipes 1, 3, 5, 7 are connected in apertures in a plate 11 which closes the wide end of a funnel 15, the narrow end of which communicates with the main exhaust pipe. The plate 11 is square and is bolted to a flange 19 around the square cross-sectioned wide end of funnel 15, the narrow end being of circular cross-section. The branch pipes are welded in apertures of the plate 11 and the narrow end of funnel 15 may be welded to the main exhaust pipe 25 or connected thereto through a silencer.
