The calculating device gives the position of the left-hand character of a number of characters which it is required to centre between given left- and right-hand margins. The number of characters as represented on the central scale is set against the left-hand margin on the upper scale. The required position of the first character is found on the central scale against the reading representing the right-hand margin on the lower scale. Both the upper and lower scales are measuring rules, Usable for measuring the number of characters and number of lines of a specific type face.
