Abstract

970,619. Rotary pumps. ROBBINS & MYERS Inc. Oct. 10, 1962 [Jan. 17, 1962], No. 38365/62. Heading F1F. A helical gear pump comprises a rigid externally threaded rotor 14, Fig. 1, a resilient stator 17 internally and externally threaded to provide a part of constant wall thickness having one more thread than the rotor and a pair of liner elements 18, 19, Fig. 2, conforming internally to the external profile of the stator and externally to the cylindrical bore of a two-part casing 11. Flanges 17a on the stator 17 permit it to be clamped respectively between the casing 11 and inlet and outlet fittings 13, 12 and locating lugs 17b prevent it from being rotated. Adjusting screws 20, 21 when adjusted inwardly reduce the clearance provided between the elements 18, 19 and the lugs 17b to take up wear of the rotor and/or stator. More than two liner elements with a corresponding number of adjusting screws may be fitted or alternatively a single adjusting screw may be used. Instead of adjusting screws the elements may be pressed radially inwardly by pneumatic or hydraulic pressure. The invention may also be applied when the pump is used as a motor or to a compressor having a tapered rotor and stator.
