1494091 Screw pumps D J S DAVIES 30 Oct 1975 [16 Nov 1974] 49691/74 Heading F1C In a screw pump, the diameter of an inlet port provided in the cylindrical surface of the casing hose 4a is substantially equal to the interval between the radially outer ends of adjacent threads of the pump rotor 3. The flank 21 of the thread is concave. Fluid is discharged at maximum pressure via a delivery chamber 15 and an outlet duct 10 and at lower pressures via outlet ducts 8. The chamber 15 is provided with a pressure relief valve 20 and/or a drain valve for draining the chamber when the pump is not in use. The rotor has two threads, and two openings 17 are provided on each side of one of the threads so that there is an opening in each of the two helical channels afforded by the threads, the two openings communicating with each other via an axial bore 16 which is sealed by a plug 18. This prevents spluttering of air as the threads cross the inlet port.
