Abstract

1459161 Rotary Vane Pumps ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN AG 17 Jan 1975 [17 Jan 1974] 2088/75 Heading F1F To control the discharge characteristics over a range of speeds, a rotary vane pump has a cylindrical insert 16 disposed transversely in a passage 13 leading to a by-pass valve 14 from a discharge chamber 10. Pump discharge is through a port 17 in the insert 16 to a line 20 and via another throttle (not shown) a reduced pressure is transmitted through a line 19 to the downstream side of by-pass valve 14. The angular orientation of the port 17 relative to the flow of fluid into the passage section throttled by the insert 16 determines the static pressure at which fluid is discharged through port 17 because the throttling effect of the insert 16 results in differing pressure fields across it and thus determines the pressure difference across the valve 14.
