Abstract
970,584. Swash plate mechanism. TOWLER BROS. (PATENTS) Ltd. July 24, 1962 [July 28, 1961], No. 27377/61. Heading F2K. [Also in Divisions F1 and G3] A swash plate for a pump or motor has an arcuate rear face slidably mounted in a complementary arcuate-faced bearing member. The swash plate face may be convex or concave. In the embodiment shown, the swash plate, Fig. 1, has a convex face with part-conical portions 3, 4 and part-cylindrical portions 6, the bearing member, Fig. 2, having complementary surfaces. The bearing surfaces may be relieved and lubrication may be provided by a dry lubricant, e.g. P.T.F.E. or molybdenum dissulphide, or by working hydraulic fluid supplied to pockets in the bearing surfaces continuously or prior to tilting. Tilting is effected by hydraulic pressure controlled by a valve 35, Fig. 4, and acting on pistons 25, 26. Valve 35 is moved by a lever 33 to connect one piston to pressure and the other to exhaust. Piston 26 acts to return valve 35 to its closed position during each tilting movement so that the swash plate is " locked " in each setting. The degree and direction of displacement of valve 35 determine the angle and direction of tilt of the swash plate.
