Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0970414/C1/1> (wherein R represents a C1-4 alkyl group) and the preparation thereof by reacting a thiourea derivative R.NH.CSNH2 with formaldehyde. The products have bactericidal and fungicidal activity (see Division A5). According to the Provisional Specification, R may also represent a substituted alkyl group or an unsubstituted or substituted aralkyl group, whilst the nitrogen atom to which it is attached may optionally carry a second unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, aralkyl or aryl group. Specification 905,195 is referred to.ALSO:Bactericidal and fungicidal compositions contain compounds of the general formula <FORM:0970414/A5-A6/1> (in which R is a C1-4 alkyl) together with a pharmaceutical carrier suitable for topical administration. They may take the form of ointments, dusting powders, lotions and pessaries. Other bactericidal and/or fungicidal agents, e.g. compounds of Specification 905,195, may be included in the compositions. According to the Provisional Specification, R may also represent a substituted alkyl group or an unsubstituted or substituted aralkyl or aryl group, whilst the nitrogen atom to which it is attached may optionally carry a second unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, aralkyl or aryl group.
