969,665. Cam-operated switches; tumbler switches. CLANG Ltd., H. E. AUSTEN, and C. D. HARWOOD. Feb. 26, 1963 [Feb. 26, 1962], No. 7342/62. Heading H2B. In a slow break electric switch, for use particularly in A.C. circuits, by depressing one end of a rocker 1, a turned-down end 10 of a floating, bridging contact member 8 is moved into a pocket 11 in the switch base 3, the member 8 is rotated so that the main contact end 13 is moved away from a stationary contact 22 and finally, when the rocker is in its " Off " position, the end 10 engages a second stationary contact 21. The member 8 is biased against the contacts 21, 22 by a compression spring 17 located in a pocket 18 in the switch base 3. The pocket 11 limits lengthwise movement of the member 8 and the end 10 determines the size of the contact gap 12, Fig. 3 (not shown). The member 8 may be of bi-metal with the ends inlaid with silver, and the contacts 21, 22 are of silver. Stops 6, 7 in the form of pillars of resilient material, limit the rotation of the rocker 1 and reduce the noise of the switch. A two-way switch may be provided by putting two switches side-by-side, Figs. 7, 8, (not shown), or a one-way switch may be made in a two-way switch housing by mounting a spring, to take up the free travel of the rocker, in the empty casing. The switch may be operated by a rocker or dolly, or by pulloperated mechanism as described in Specification 859,210. Specification 803,314 also is referred to.
