Abstract
Permonosulphuric acid is prepared by reacting gaseous sulphur trioxide with liquid hydrogen peroxide of at least 50% concentration. The molar ratio of sulphur trioxide to hydrogen peroxide may be 0.9 : 1 to 2.0 : 1 and the temperature may be 20-50 DEG C. The sulphur trioxide may be mixture with one or more inert gases containing up to 50% sulphur trioxide, e.g. 7% SO3 in air. The gas may be introduced through a disperser with mechanical stirring, and where a mixture is used effluent gas may be recycled after charging with further SO3. The reactants can be introduced continuously in a counter current fashion and the product continuously withdrawn. A portion of this product can be recycled by being mixed with the initial charge of peroxide. Specifications 738,407 and 797,701 are referred to.
