Abstract

967,669. Controlling lateral canting. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. March 6, 1961 [March 17, 1960], No. 7963/61. Heading B7D. A pneumatic suspension system has valves to maintain the chassis substantially level on sloping ground which act independently of any levelling valve mechanisms in the system. A pendulum-operated valve (shown in Fig. 1) comprises a valve body 1 arranged transversely on one side of the vehicle with a longitudinal bore 1b containing air inlet and exhaust ports 7a, 9a and valves 7, 9 which are operated by pushrods 6, 8 when pivoted lever 2 with attached pendulum weight 4 swings to one side or the other. As applied to a vehicle, Fig. 2, the system comprises an air reservoir 14 connected to the air springs 28, 29 through a threeway valve 16 and either by lines 17, 22 and 23, normal levelling valves 24, 25 and lines 30, 31 or by lines 18, 32 and 33 pendulum-operated valves 34, 35 on either side of the vehicle and lines 36, 37. The valves 24, 25, 34 and 35 are all connected through three-way valve 45 to exhaust. The two three-way valves 16, 45 are connected electrically in series with a switch 20 and battery so that the levelling values 24, 25 or the pendulum-operated valves may be used as alternatives.
