Abstract
Aqueous emulsions of improved stability comprise alkyl-hydrogen-polysiloxanes, quaternary alkylammonium salts or long chain primary alkylamines as emulsifying agents, and a primary aminocarboxylic acid in amount between 0.1 and 5% by weight of the siloxane. The siloxanes used are usually mixtures of diorgano- and alkyl-hydrogen-siloxane oils, to which organic solvents, e.g. tetrabromoethane, may have been added. The pH of the emulsion should be between 2.5 and 5. Aminocarboxylic acids specified are glycine, 6-aminocapronic acid and glutamic acid. In a typical example (1) a mixture of two a , o -dihydroxydimethylpolysiloxanes of different viscosities and a methyl-hydrogen-polysiloxane is added to a solution of cetyl-benzyl-dimethyl-ammonium chloride and glycine in water, and the whole mixture is then emulsified in known manner. Uses: for waterproofing textiles.
