Abstract

967,099. Gun mountings. BREVETS AERO-MECANIQUES S.A. April 23, 1963 [April 30, 1962], No. 16361/62. Heading F3C. A light field gun mounting comprises a cradle 4 mounted by a bearing ring 5 on an elevating sector member 6 of a carrier 7 provided with forward ground-engaging means 10 and relatively long rearward ground-engaging means 11, and a couch 17 for supporting a prone gunner being pivotally suspended between the gun cradle 4 and the rearward ground-engaging means 11, so that the couch can transmit at least part of the gunner's weight to the mounting and follow aiming movements of the gun cradle. The rearward spokes 11 are spanned by a cross-bar 14 having a socket 15 in which is pivotally seated the rear end of the inner member 16 of a telescopic central frame bar of the couch 17 for longitudinal adjustment of the couch. A pair of frame bars 18 form a fork in which is pivoted about a horizontal transverse axis, a lug 19 pivoted about a vertical axis to a bracket 20 mounted on the cradle 4. A hand wheel 21 operates rack and pinion means for moving the couch 17 along the inner bar 16. The mounting may be provided with stub-axles for a pair of wheels and the two forward spades 10 may be replaced by a single spade adjustable in height.
