Abstract

967,077. Rolling. MORGAN CONSTRUCTION CO. June 14, 1961 [June 24, 1960], No. 21453/61. Heading B3M. Rolling mill apparatus for directing mill product to two cooling beds alternately comprises a directing guide 11 pivoted at 21 for alignment with either of two vertically movable switch guides 12 and 13 and with troughs 14 leading to the cooling beds. Each switch guide has an upper surface 33, Fig. 7, and a lower surface 36 having an inclined vertical wall 35. As shown in Fig. 2, a bar b 1 has been directed by the guide 11 over the upper surface 33 of switch guide 12 and while it crossed this surface the guide 12 was lifted by means of hydraulically operated cams 43 and 44 to cause a second bar b 2 , immediately following bar b 1 , to move over the now raised lower surface 36 and be deflected by the inclined wall 35 to the other cooling bed. The guide 13 is lowered as guide 12 is raised and the directing guide is moved by an hydraulically operated block 24 to face the guide 13. This latter guide is subsequently raised while the bar b 2 is crossing it to direct the next bar to the other cooling bed.
