967,008. Valves. BELL'S ASBESTOS & ENGINEERING Ltd. March 28, 1963 [April 26, 1962], No. 10605/62. Heading F2V. A cylindricalthroughway plug-cock which has its two ports 3, Fig. 1, of circular rectangular or oval cross-section, embodies an annular groove 8 of varying depth in the plug chamber and around each port 3; each groove 8 houses a sealing ring 9 that bears on the plug and is spaced from one wall of its groove to form a chamber 8a. The surface of the sealing rings 9 in contact with the plug is arcuate; the rings 9 are resilient and moulded from natural or synthetic rubber or other plastic material. Any fluid leaking past the inlet sealing ring enters the corresponding chamber 8a and urges the ring more tightly against the plug. In another form each ring 9, Fig. 5, is held in place around its port by a sleeve 15 pinned or screwed in position. In a further form, the plug is conical and moved axially before it is rotated by a lever acting on a cam surface; the sealing rings are of non-resilient material. The chamber of the upstream ring may be connected to the pressure fluid by a separate duct; this pressure fluid may be obtained from a separate source. Lubricant sealing may be additionally employed.
