966,784. Transformer arrangements; magnetic switches. STRONG ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Sept. 28, 1961 [Oct. 3, 1960], No. 34932/61. Headings H2B and H2H. [Also in Divisions F4 and H1] A removable unit which can be placed in inductive relationship with a transformer primary winding comprises a removable part 50 (Fig. 3) of the transformer core 28, a secondary winding 56 associated therewith and a lamp 52, 54 or other load, all embedded or encapsulated in insulating material 62. The main part of the core may be C-shaped and, with the primary winding, is embedded or enclosed in a capsule 34 which, like 62, may be synthetic resin, glass ceramic or hydraulic cement. Alternatively the main core portion may be E-shaped. The primary may be protected against overload when the secondary is removed by a mercury switch 215 (Fig. 14) in series with it, the switch being held closed magnetically when the cover 172 is in place by a permanent magnet 226 on the cover and an armature 216 of the switch. Alternatively a saturable reactor and rectifier (Fig. 16, not shown) may be used.
