Abstract
966,397. Percussive drills. REED ROLLER BIT CO. Feb. 7, 1962 [Feb. 20, 1961], No. 4716/62. Heading B4C. [Also in Division F2] A pneumatic tool comprises at least one piston 6 mounted in a cylinder 3, one end of the cylinder being closed and sealed by a resilient cylinder head 8. As shown in Fig. 1 applied to a percussion scaling tool having a number of pistons 6, the resilient cylinder heads 8, which may be of synthetic rubber, are held in position by a pin 11 having a larger diameter than holes 9 in the heads. In operation, compressed air is fed via a valve 14, through a hollow handle 12, port 17 and passages 21, to act on top of the pistons. Upon movement of the pistons, the passages 21 are closed and exhaust outlets 22 opened thereby permitting the return of the pistons. The resilient heads 8 act as buffers and are also easily removed for replacement of the pistons. The handle may be screwed into an alternative socket 15.
