A shearing machine comprises a fixed blade carried by an upright body, a moving blade carried on a slide plate pivoted to the body and guide means arranged to engage the slide plate over at least part of the shearing movement of the movable blade. The body 12 carries a fixed blade 14 and supports a slide plate 16 on a pivot bolt 17. The slide plate 16 carries a blade 18 and is operated by a handle 19 through gear segments 20 and 21. A guide plate 25 is held to the body 12 by the pivot bolt 17 and by bolts 28 and 31. Spacing washers 29 and 32 space the guide plate away from the body by a distance equal to the thickness of the slide plate 16. The slide plate has a nose 34 which engages a nose 28 on the guide plate 25 to prevent sideways separation of the cutting blades. Specification 925,267 is referred to.
