Abstract

965,861. Gramophone turntables. J. F. GRADO. Jan. 1, 1963, No. 149/63. Heading G5R. [Also in Division F2] In a record player the shaft 26 of a turntable 30 (Fig. 2) is mounted for rotation relative to a rigid base-plate 14 by two self centring bearings 34 and 32, the latter bearing being movable along the axis of the shaft. The bearing 34 comprises an annular member 42 formed of P.T.F.E. which is received in mount 40 in the base of plate 14 and engages with a conical section 36 of shaft 26. The bearing 32 is positioned at the other end of shaft 26 from turntable 30 and comprises a conical tip 48 with a ball seat 50 containing a ball 52 for engagement with conical well 54 in a plug 56 threaded into plate 18 forming part of the rigid mounting (not shown). Rotation of plug 56 by arm 60 causes movement of shaft 26 along its axis to ensure a zero clearance fit with bearing 34. A flywheel 28 is mounted on shaft 26 between the two bearings and is belt driven by a motor (not shown). A further embodiment is described with differences in the position and shape of the bearing members (Fig. 7).
