Abstract

867,567. Turntables. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 26, 1960 [March 2, 1959], No. 6843/60. Class 40 (2). A turntable with a vertical shaft is supported floating in a magnetic field by means of two magnetic bodies, one acting as a stator and the other secured to said shaft. In the first embodiment, Fig. 1, a soft iron armature 3 is mounted on the shaft 1, while an annular magnet 6 is mounted in the fixed position shown in the Figure. The fluxes produced in armature 3 and magnet 6 in opposite vertical directions so the armature 3 is supported in the same plane as magnet 6 by the magnetic forces so created. In a second embodiment a fixed annular magnet 6 is mounted about a bearing member 12, while a second magnet 11 is secured to the turntable. 2. The fluxes of the magnets are again in opposite vertical directions, so that the repulsive force produced supports the turntable in stable equilibrium.
