Abstract

<PICT:0965772/C6-C7/1> To reduce corrosion and improve the efficiency of an internal combustion engine an electronic device comprising a non-ferrous electrode mounted on or in a holder of ferromagnetic material is positioned in or near the oil sump drain outlet of the engine or in the air or air/fuel mixture stream of the induction manifold, the metal of the electrode being higher in the electrochemical series than the metal of the engine. As shown in the drawing the preferred form of electrode comprises a solenoid formed of a reel 1 of ferromagnetic material with a permanent magnet 2 and wound around with an insulated conductor coil 3 of copper or silver. The ends of the conductor coil 3 are soldered together to form a closed circuit. The solenoid is placed in a non-ferrous capsule 4 and the open end of the capsule is sealed with the same non-ferrous metal. The assembly is fitted into a steel nut 5 which is then screwed into the oil sump drain outlet or in the air stream of the suction manifold.
