Abstract
965,096. Forced flow steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX CO. Feb. 28, 1961 [March 1, 1960], No. 7231/61. Heading F4A. [Also in Division B1] A once-through forced flow steam generator has tubular walls arranged in vertically superimposed sections. Water is supplied through an economizer 32 and downcomer 41 to supply headers 43 whence it flows in parallel through the lowermost sections of all the furnace wall tubes to a header 53, which is connected to the supply header 55 of the furnace wall sections next above through a mixer 54. The arrangement is repeated at 56, 54A, 58 and so on for each successive section. The mixer, Fig. 2 (see also Division B1) comprises a cylinder 10 having hemispherical ends 12, and inlets 14 arranged obliquely to the axis of the cylinder, see Fig. 3 (not shown), and connecting to the header 53. A baffle 22 is circular in plan and has two diverging wings 24 having staggered slots, see Fig. 4 (not shown), so that the incoming water is divided into interleaved streams of long and narrow cross-section; the mixture leaves through outlets 16 into the supply header 55.
