Abstract

964,953. Converting; protective arrangements. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. May 23, 1963 [May 23, 1962; July 3, 1962], No. 20659/63. Headings H2F and H2K. A protective circuit for one or a group of semi-conductor rectifiers in which a fuse is connected in series with the rectifier(s) has a circuit arrangement connected in parallel with the fuse and rectifier(s) which becomes conductive upon the rupturing of the fuse. In both Figures an A.C. source 1 supplies a circuit including a load 4 and inductance 6 through a controlled or uncontrolled rectifier 3. In Fig. 1 the fuse 2 and rectifier 3 are shunted by the device 5 which may be a Zener diode and ordinary diode, or two Zener diodes in series opposition. In Fig. 2, the fuse assembly 50 has a fuse wire 52 bridging a spark gap between electrodes 51, 53 and an auxiliary electrode 54 so arranged that, when the fuse ruptures, the arc is transferred from electrode 53 to electrode 54 and the arc current does not pass through the rectifier. A bridge circuit may be protected by a single fuse on the A.C. side or, if the load is inductive, by fuses on both sides (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). A three-phase arrangement is described (Fig. 5, not shown).
