Abstract

964,797. Dry shavers. WAHL CLIPPER CORPORATION. Jan. 31, 1961 [Feb. 15, 1960], No. 3591/61. Heading B4B. An inner blade 24 for an electric dry shaver comprises a thin, prehardened, metal sheet having a perforated cutting region in which the metal between the perforations constitutes cutting teeth 30, the metal sheet being bent so that at least a portion of the sheet has a continuous and uniform curvature in cross-section, the teeth following the arcuate periphery of the bent metal sheet and having upturned cutting edges 32 which are defined by the acute-angled intersection between the outer surface 34 of the blade and the surface 40 of the blade metal facing the perforation. The perforations consist of parallel slots 26 which may be formed by an acid etching process to form straight-sided teeth 30 perpendicular to the direction of movement of the blade. Bending of the sheet, to form the cylindrical inner blade, by virtue of the stress in the prehardened metal, causes the edge at the acute-angled intersection to be raised above the outer surface of the cutting region by at least 0.000005 inch, as shown in Fig. 4, so that only the tips of the teeth bear on the outer cutter and friction is reduced.
