964,584. Hypodermic injection appliances. EXPRESS INJECTOR CO. Ltd. March 6, 1961 [March 23, 1960], No. 10352/60. Heading A5R. An ampoule for use in a needleless hypodermic injector comprises a stepped body of ductile material designed to be introverted to expel the contents. In the preferred form the cylindrical body 10 has a portion 13 of reduced diameter, with a step 12, adjacent its closed end, while its open end has an outwardly directed flange 11. The ampoule is filled and then closed by a plug 14 which is secured by a constricting ring 16 which is forced down against the flange 11. This plug has an axially placed tapering discharge duct 14. When used with the injection device described in Specification 964,585, the end of the reduced portion 13 is first introverted by a central plunger, so giving an initial high pressure ejection of medicament and, thereafter, the shoulder 12 is engaged by a tubular sleeve which introverts the whole body to provide steady ejection of the contents.
