Abstract

1285415 Syringes CENTURY DISPOSABLE DEVICES Inc 2 Oct 1970 [7 Oct 1969] 47025/70 Heading A5R A syringe for mixing a powdered medicant 4 with a liquid carrier 35 comprises inner 20 and outer 1 tubes, a rubber seal 5 on the forward end of the outer tube, a second seal 26 on the forward end of the inner tube provided with passages 27 that open when the plunger (32) attached to the piston plug 30 is depressed, a piston ring 24 on the forward end of the inner tube, a sealing ring 40 with a central slit (44) positioned between the piston plug 30 and the second seal 26, and a needle 7 and holder 8 that may be moved to rupture the seal 5 of the outer tube. Prior to use a screw cap 17 maintains the needle and holder in an extended position. Removal of the cap permits retraction of the needle under the influence of spring 16 and causes rupture of the seal 5. The seal 26, on the forward end of the inner tube is provided with one or more opening 27 in the lateral portions beyond the constriction 23. When the plunger (32) is depressed, the increase in pressure flexes the seal and allows liquid 35 to flow into the outer tube and mix with the powder 4.
