964,314. Feeding sheets. BETEILGUNGS UND PATENTVERWALTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT m.b.H. June 28, 1963 [June 30, 1962], No. 25872/63. Heading B6B. Apparatus for detecting the presence of two superposed sheets of ferromagnetic material, which may have been separated from a pile, passing over a table &c. 1, comprises a magnet 3 which is normally held by a spring 5 at a short distance below the upper surface of the table, but will move upwardly towards the said surface when the magnetic field is increased by the presence of two superposed sheets 2, and so initiates a switching pulse. The magnet 3 is U- shaped or M-shaped, is in a non-magnetic housing 4, and is urged by the spring 5 against a microswitch 6 which acts as a stop. The housing 4 has a screw connection 7 with a housing 8 for the switch 6, so that the distance between the magnet 3 and a sheet 2 can be adjusted: this adjustment, and the initial setting of the tension of the spring 5, enables the magnet to be set so that it only moves upwardly when two or more superposed sheets 2 pass thereover. On the upward movement of the magnet 3, the switch 6 is opened to initiate a warning signal, to stop the processing machine, or to actuate a device for the ejection of the second sheet.
