Abstract

1387190 Feeding sheets XEROX CORP 28 Dec 1972 [30 Dec 1971] 59877/72 Heading B8R Operation of a machine such as an electrostatic reproducer is regulated in accordance with the condition of a supply of sheets (e.g. from a supply table such as that described in co-pending Application 59876/72. Control means 119 produces an "enable" signal in response to closing of switch 124 by an operator. Production of the "enable" signal is inhibited when a predetermined number of sheets remains in the supply. Furthermore, should the "enable" signal be produced and subsequently the last sheet of the supply is used, the enable signal is terminated and the machine turned off. Lamp 110 indicates the condition of supply of sheets and if there is a mis-feed. Lamp 114 flashes as a result of a pulsating voltage on terminal 113 when the supply of sheets is at or below the predetermined number. The low supply signal may be derived from a conventional switch means disposed and adapted to be contacted by the movable supply table of the above referred to Specification. Alternatively, the weight of supply pile or a photo-electric detector in the path of the pile may be used to generate the low supply signal, which is applied to flip-flop 101. The output of flip-flop 101 is supplied as an inhibit signal to the control means 119 via coincidence circuit or AND gate 104. By supplying the "enable" signal inverted to AND gate 104, the inhibit signal will not be produced until the last sheet of a particular sequence has been processed. Opening the access door to replenish the supply resets the flip-flop 101. Mis-feed in the machine is detected by a switch member in the path of a photoelectric detector, and provides an inhibit signal on terminal 109.
