Abstract

The invention comprises the compound 2-N-methyl-ammonium-ethylthiosulphuric acid, which is prepared by reacting N-methyl-beta-chloroethylamine hydrochloride with an alkali metal thiosulphate. The thiosulphate and N-methyl-beta-chloroethylamine hydrochloride may be heated together in a suitable solvent, e.g. ethylene glycol, and the 2-N-methyl-ammonium-ethylthiosulphuric acid crystallised out after concentration and cooling of the solution. The compound may be used as a radioprotective agent in animals when administered internally.ALSO:The preparation consists of a radio-protective compound, 2-N-methyl ammonium-ethyl thiosulphuric acid, in a physiologically tolerable neutral saline solution. It may be administered internally in sub-toxic doses to produce increase to the deleterious effects of ionizing radiations.
