Abstract

964,217. Ballast carrying means. NORMALAIR Ltd. March 25, 1963 [March 29, 1962], No. 12004/62. Heading A3V. [Also in Division B7] Ballast carrying means for an underwater swimmer comprises an elongated flexible weight belt 5, (Fig. 1) forming part of a air cylinder harness 6, carrying two sets of ballast weights 7. Each set of weights has a quick release pin 8 of stainless steel, tapered at one end 9 and provided at the other end with an eye 10, into which the finger can be inserted. A lanyard 11 secures the pin to the harness. Belt 5 has a loop 14 (Fig. 2) formed e.g. by a row of stitching 15. Each of the weights 12, 13, is formed with a rectangular hole 16 sufficient to allow the loop 14 to pass easily therethrough. Quick release pin 8 is inserted into loop 14, which may be removed by the swimmer to allow the removal of one or more weights. In a further embodiment the two pins 8 may be attached to a single cord such that they may be removed simultaneously.
