963,989. Moulds. WEST-PLAST, GES. FUR KUNSTSTOFFVERARBEITUNG. Sept. 19, 1960 [Sept. 18, 1959], No. 32179/60. Heading B3F. [Also in Division B5] A chain is cast from, e.g. aluminium by positioning adjacent links 10, 11 in cavities 8, 9 in a four-part mould 1, 2, 3, 4 and then injecting the metal through channels 12, 13, 13<SP>1</SP> into the mould cavity 7. The channels 13, 13<SP>1</SP> are arranged to enter the cavity tangentially to assist in circulating the material around the cavity. A reinforcing steel or nylon wire may be first introduced into the cavity through an opening 16, which is then closed with a plug. The links may be strengthened by widening the cross-section at the curves or by providing metal inserts which may be perforated at the curves.
