Abstract

7-Phenylheptane-1,4-diol is prepared by hydrogenating a compound of the formula: <FORM:0962720/C1/1> wherein R is an alkyl radical having 2 to 8 carbon atoms, in the presence of copper chromite as catalyst. The starting material is preferably dissolved in dioxan and hydrogenated at elevated temperature and pressure. An example is given. Specification 948,893 is referred to.
