Abstract
Compounds of formula: <FORM:0862868/IV (b)/1> in which R is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, monocyclic aryl or phenyl lower alkyl are prepared by catalytically hydrogenating under elevated temperature and pressure a pyrrolidinone having the formula: <FORM:0862868/IV (b)/2> in which R1 is alkyl. The "lower" groups referred to are those containing less than 6 carbon atoms. Preferably the process is carried out at a pressure above 1000 lbs. per sq. in. and at a temperature above 150 DEG C. in the presence of a copper-chromium oxide catalyst. Specification 799,030 is referred to.
