Abstract

962,332. Paper-making machines. BELOIT IRON WORKS. Oct. 26,1960 [Feb. 29, 1960 (2); March 9, 1960], No. 15593/63. Divided out of 962,331. Heading D2A. In a paper-making machine such as that of Specification 962, 331 a transfer press comprises a pick-up felt trained round a "plain" roll which is in nip-defining relation with a press felt trained around a suction roll. The inner metal cylinder 18a of the plain roll has an elastomeric covering 18b, e.g. of hard rubber, bonded or otherwise fixed thereto in which blind holes 18c are drilled. The rubber covering may be omitted, the blind holes being drilled in the metal cylinder. The holes 18c retain moisture pressed from the pickup felt and return it to the felt at the far side of the nip.
