Abstract
962,317. Commutators for dynamo-electric machines. BUSHING CO. Ltd., and A. REYROLLE & CO. Ltd. July 26, 1960, No. 26006/60. Heading H2A. In a commutator of the type whose conducting segments are clamped together by two Veerings, the segments 10 are spaced apart by sheets of insulation 11, e.g. cured epoxy resin bonded paper or glass cloth, secured to the conducting segments by adhesive. Before assembly of the commutator, either the conducting or insulating segments are coated with an uncured or partly cured resin, e.g. " Araldite " (Registered Trade Mark). The segments and spacers are then assembled in a jig and machined to form at each end the clamping groove 12. Clamping rings 15, 17 are then placed in position with strips of micanite covering their surfaces, the assembled segments being interposed between them, and the rings are drawn together by six bolts 20 which have micanite sleeves 21. The commutator is left for twelve hours at room temperature and then heated for thirty minutes at 100‹ C. to cure the resin. Finally, further micanite layers 24 are inserted and secured by a coating of shellac, or by shellac-coated string.
