962,207. Rotary drum filters. J. M. VOITH G.m.b.H. Feb. 13, 1963 [March 2, 1962], No. 5815/63. Heading BID. [Also in Division D2] Apparatus for dewatering suspensions comprises a rotary drum 3 partly submerged in the suspension 2 and provided with a plurality of suction boxes 6 distributed around the drum periphery, down pipes 7 (only four shown) for discharging water from the suction boxes into a discharge duct situated below the level of the suction boxes, outlets 8 for the pipes in at least one end face of the drum at points equidistant from, and spaced a substantial distance from, the axis of the drum, and means for varying the cross-section of the outlets. As described the means may be in the form of plates, each plate being adjustable to cover the desired area of an outlet, but preferably there is a single annular plate (Fig. 3 not shown) with holes corresponding to the outlets rotatably mounted on each end plate, with half the pipes 7 connected to each end plate. The connections 15 between the suction boxes 6 and the pipes 7 are preferably all in the same vertical plane equidistant between the end plates or in two or three planes symmetrically arranged with respect to the end plates. Alternatively the down pipes may be located in the end plates.
