Abstract
962,142. Dibenzanthrone and isodibenzanthrone dyes. CIBA Ltd. Jan. 16, 1962 [Jan. 16, 1961; Dec. 8, 1961], No. 1613/62. Heading C4P. The invention comprises vat dyes of the formula in which n is 1 or 2, Y represents two alkoxy or alkyl groups or one to four halogen atoms or no substituent, one X is a direct bond and the other is a -CO- group and Z is the residue of a sulphatoalkylamine bound through the nitrogen atom and in which the alkylene chain may be interrupted by hetero atoms, the residue containing more than 5 carbon and hetero atoms between the sulphato group and the amidenitrogen atom. The dyes are made by amidating a compound of the formula where n, Y and X are as above with a sulphatoalkylamine or hydroxyalkylamine having more than 5 carbon and heteroatoms between the sulphato or hydroxy and amino groups, and when a hydroxyalkylamine is used esterifying the hydroxy group with a sulphating agent. Dyes in which the alkylene chain is interrupted by nitrogen may be made by condensing a sulphato-alkylamine having at least 3 carbon atoms with a dye of the formula I above, where n, X and Y are as above but Z is an aliphatic amino group of at least two carbon atoms and having in #- or γ-position a substituent capable of being split off. Dyes in which Y represents halogen atoms may also be made by halogenation of the non-halogenated dyes. The dyes vat-dye and print cellulose fibres in blue to violet shades.
