Apparatus for cleaning a long tube, known as the gun, of a furnace comprises a bench 10 having supports 11, 12 carrying clamps holding the gun rigidly and against rotation, a pump 20 and a circulating system, for cleansing fluid, having a liquid tight connector 15 at one end of the tube and a screwed cap 16 at the other. The gun can be a single tube or a coaxial tube. In the former case the cap 16 connects the pipe end to the circulating system, in the latter case the cap serves to close the end of the outer tube and locate the inner tube centrally while leaving communication ducts between the tubes allowing for the liquid to flow down one tube and up the other one. The connector 15 as shown is for the coaxial tube and is connected by a hose 19 to a circulating pump 20 and by a hose 21 to a tank 22 containing a filter, the tank being connected to the pump. Clamps on the support 11 are manually operated by handles 14 and the clamp 18, fixed to the bench 10 holds the gun against rotational movement. An atomizer normally connected to one end of the gun is dismantled, after the gun is clamped in position, the said end of the gun is cleaned by a reamer before the end cap is connected and the atomizer is separately cleaned by specially shaped spigots which can be aided by polishing and grinding powder.
