Abstract
In the gasification of fuel oils containing vanadium and alkali compounds, the gases formed are conveyed over a curved path during or after gasification, whereby particles containing the vanadium and alkali compounds are separated by centrifugal force, the temperature being maintained at such a value that the compounds are present to a small extent only in the gaseous state. This is ensured by maintaining a temperature of not more than 800 DEG C. at the exit of the reaction chamber 1. Oil to be gasified enters at 7 and air and/or oxygen, or steam is injected through nozzles 6, an impeller 10 causing the gases to follow a curved path in the chamber 1, the compounds, which exist as <PICT:0962001/C4-C5/1> molten ash, being deposited on the chamber walls. In addition, a cyclone separator may be provided downstream of the gas outlet 8, or a ceramic filter may be located in the outlet 8. In an example, a fuel oil Hu=9800 kcal./kg. was gasified to produce a gas of the following composition, percentages by volume: 6.9% CO2, 14.5% CO, 4.0% H2, 3.6% CH4, 2.0% hydrocarbons, 69.0% N2.
