A ring binder has the ring halves 3 carried on rails 2, and comprises a back member 1 with integral or separate end projections 4 on its upper surface, the projections 4 being provided with curved recesses in which pins on the ends of the rails engage to guide the ring halves from the open to the closed position. Where the rails 2 are fairly short, and the rails and back are made of flexible resilient material such as a plastic, the rails can be sprung into position, and the recesses for the rail pins and the upper face of the back 1 are so shaped that the rails 2 can pivot about their mating faces to allow the ring halves to be moved apart to receive sheets. Where the members are made of inflexible material, the end projections 4 are removable to allow the rails 2 to be mounted. In the case of large binders using long rails 2, the inner mating faces of the rails are provided with mating projections which can be engaged by a longitudinal sliding movement. If the binder cover and the back 1 are of plastic material, they can be welded together, and where the cover is of leather, the two are secured together by adhesive.
