Abstract
961,703. Respiratory appliances. MINISTER OF AVIATION, and HYMATIC ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept. 16, 1960 [July 2, 1959], No. 22726/59. Heading A5T. [Also in Division F2] A valve unit for an emergency oxygen supply is provided with a pressure relief valve 37 having a primary and secondary loading, the latter being effected by an evacuated bellows 50 which become effective above a given altitude ; the operative area of the bellows determines the characteristic of the secondary loading (see also Division F2). The unit also comprises an oxygen inlet controlled by a valve 5 which is opened when a bayonet coupling on the supply pipe is coupled to the aluminium alloy body 1; the outlet 8 to the breathing mask is rotatably mounted in the body 1 and oxygen passes thereto via a check valve comprising a flexible silicone-rubber disc 17 backed by a dished brass disc 18 both of which are centrally riveted 19 to the seat 13. Opposite the outlet 8 is an inlet 20 for atmospheric air, in which inlet is a filter 34; between the inlet and the exterior of the body is a check valve comprising a disc 28 of graphiteimpregnated silicone-rubber riveted to a carrier 27 and guided by a housing 23, the disc 28 being urged on to its seat by an adjustable spring 30. The inlet valve enables atmospheric air to be inhaled should the emergency oxygen supply fail.
