[Also in Divisions F1 and F2] A simple sun gear-ring, gear-planets, train driving accessories in a motor vehicle is arranged to give an overdrive ratio when the vehicle is stationary. The accessories may include an electrical power generator, an engine cooling fan, an engine cooling water pump, a pump for supplying fluid pressure for power steering, and a compressor for the vehicle air conditioner or air springs. In one form, an internal combustion engine 11, Fig. 1, drives through a transmission 13 which may include an hydrokinetic torque converter and multi-ratio mechanical gearing (not further described) to an output shaft 15. A flexible drive 54 connects the output shaft 15 through belt-and-pulley gearing 44 to the ring gear 16, Fig. 2, of a planetary train 10, the ring gear meshing planet pinions 18 mounted in a carrier 19 fast for rotation with the engine crank-shaft 12. The planet pinions 18 also mesh a driven sun gear 17 driving through belt-and-pulley gearing 48, 49 to accessories 56, 58. The arrangement is such that with the vehicle and the output shaft 15 stationary, the ring gear 16 is stationary, and the planetary gearing 10 gives a step-up ratio, but with increasing vehicle and output shaft speed, the ratio falls to approximately direct drive. In a modification, a similar planetary gear has a geared drive 59, Fig. 4, to its carrier from the engine crank-shaft 12 and a geared drive 52, 53 from an intermediate shaft 76 between an hydrodynamic torque converter 62 and a changespeed bear to its ring gear, the sun gear driving through a shaft 61 to the engine accessories. In a similar modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the ring gear is geared to the output shaft 15 instead of to the intermediate shaft 76.
