Abstract

961,563. Bearings. RANSOME & MARLES BEARING CO. Ltd. April 12, 1962 [May 9, 1961], No. 16829/61. Heading F2A. In a ball or roller bearing means for retaining the bearing as an integral unit to facilitate handling comprises a resilient retaining member which has a rim to engage with a lip on at least one of the races. In embodiments, the retaining member 4, Fig. 1, has a flange 7 which engages behind a lip 6 of the inner race 1, the member 4 having been forced against the inner race 1 so that the flange 7 deforms and then returns to effect locking, the retaining member 4, Fig. 2, is forced into recesses 9 of the inner and outer races 1, 2 ; the retaining member 4, Fig. 3, is a U-shaped collar which forces two portions of an inner race 1 together ; the retaining member, Fig. 4, is also U-shaped and forces two portions of an outer race 2 together; and two retaining members 4, Fig. 5, are located in recesses 16, 16 of an outer race 2 and against shoulders 17, 17 of an inner race 1. The retaining member 4 may be made of rubber or synthetic plastics material &c., may have a metal &c. insert therein, and may also serve as a seal.
